In September 2023, I big chopped my sister’s locs and over the last year she has been regrowing her hair. In this tutorial I show you her growth progress and reshape and color her curls.

STEP 1: Section hair and apply color from roots to ends, smooth through.

After getting all the color applied, I will cover with a processing cap to insulate the warmth from her scalp to help the color process for 20 additional minutes then rinse with lukewarm water.

Color Formula:

Ion Permanent Creme Color - 1V + 20 vol developer, 1:1.5 ratio

STEP 2: Cleanse with MoKnowsHair Ultimate Hydrator shampoo, Ion After Color Treatment and MoKnowsHair Elasticity Restoring Treatment (10 min)

STEP 3: Curly haircut - Square layers with square perimeter

I am going to convert her shape to square layers with a square perimeter so it can continue to grow into a round, bob-like shape. Taking the length from the occipital bone down, otherwise referred to as the nape hair, is what is going to keep the shape looking intentional. The goal is to get the sides and crown hair to “catch up” by keeping the hair in the nape short.

STEP 4: Set curls, dry and style.

Apply water, MoKnowsHair Curl Primer and Smoothing Pudding, brush through and shingle/define curls.

Pro-Tip: Use clips to hold shorter sections down while drying. Sitting under a hooded dryer will help maintain stretch and keep definition while diffusing will add volume. Using a mix of these drying methods will give you the best if both worlds!
